11 Years of fighting for democracy: LDLU President's keynote for young leaders

April 19, 2026

From April 18 to 19, 2026, the large-scale Beyond Borders MUN simulation took place in Kyiv, organized by the Pechersk Council of Leaders (PERL) and the NGO "Shturval" with the institutional support of the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine.

The event brought together over 160 participants.

Within the framework of the model, young high school leaders were divided into groups representing various UN bodies: UNGA, UNSC, ECOSOC, MSC, WHO, UNESCO, UNHRC, and IAEA. Focus topics ranged from the maintenance of UN peacekeeping forces to overcoming climatic, military, and nuclear challenges.

The main non-competitive event of the gathering was a lecture by LDLU President Arthur Kharytonov, who spoke about the 11-year experience of building the international and advocacy networks of the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine. He covered the organization's path to IFLRY and LYMEC, the establishment of the special project Free Hong Kong Center and the birth of the anti-PRC movement in Ukraine, the international struggle for the freedom of young Ukrainian public figures, and, ultimately, the opening of the LDLU East Asian Office in Taipei.

The core of the lecture was passing on the personal experience of LDLU members who have achieved unprecedented success. In particular, the story of Olha Tsurkan, who became the first Ukrainian in liberal bodies since 1947, and the current Vice President Yevheniia Fedotova, who became the first Ukrainian on the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe.

Today, when autocracies pose an existential threat to the rules-based international order, supporting initiatives like Beyond Borders MUN is of fundamental importance for the national security of Ukraine and the LDLU team itself.

By passing on the experience of the generation of Ukrainian youth who, after the Revolution of Dignity, began to independently build bridges with nations that Ukraine had not previously interacted with strategically, we aim to strengthen the interest of young leaders in geopolitics and the support of the rules-based international order.
