From April 17 to 19, 2026, the jubilee congress of the European Liberal Youth (LYMEC), dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the organization, took place in Vienna.

The team of the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine (LDLU) was represented by Vice President Yevheniia Fedotova, Secretary General Anastasiia Zaiets, and International Officer Anna Komziuk. Their visit to Vienna was supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine.

Elections for the organization's leadership were held during the congress. According to the results, Marten Porte (JD, Netherlands) was elected President of LYMEC, and Seàn Bennett (YL, United Kingdom) was elected Vice President. Martina Barrés Sabartés (JNC, Catalonia), Dimitra Papadopoulou (JuLis, Germany), Anes Hodžić (NS, Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Tommy Monahan (AY, Northern Ireland) became members of the Bureau. Ilija Jerković (PSGM, Serbia) was elected Treasurer of the organization.

The Congress granted associate membership to new organizations from Kosovo and Italy, and also considered a number of important resolutions regarding Arctic security, space security, nuclear energy, human rights, and education.

We sincerely thank the previous Bureau led by Ines Holzegger – a member of the Austrian Parliament and our long-time friend – for their enormous contribution to the development of our European liberal family. We wish the new team every success!

LYMEC is the leading liberal youth institution in Europe, affiliated with the ALDE Party. The LDLU has been a full member of LYMEC since 2018.
