From October 23 to 25, the Autumn Congress of the European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) took place in Vilnius.
The delegation from the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine (LDLU) included Vladyslava Yakovenko and Oksana Loboda. Their visit was supported by the Ukrainian office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF).
The delegates adopted several important resolutions, three of which were co-signed by LDLU:
The first resolution states that the EU defense system must become more self-sufficient through joint arms production and coordination between member states. In particular, delegates emphasized strengthening cooperation with Ukraine through joint research, development, production, and procurement of armaments (Together We Spend, United We Ball - More EU Defense Joint Venture Projects!).
The second resolution aims to reduce the financial burden on citizens. The tools for this should be competition, private investment, and the reduction of regulatory restrictions (Deregulate to Liberate: Making Life Affordable Again in Europe).
The third resolution asserts that the development of nuclear energy will ensure the competitiveness and security of the EU while reducing dependence on Russian fuel (Let the Market Split the Atom: A Technology-Neutral Framework for Nuclear Energy and a Competitive European Electricity Market).
Additionally, the Congress granted full membership to an organization from Belarus for the first time — the Youth Bloc (Moladzevy Blok). This organization has been fighting the Lukashenko regime for years and is currently in exile. After the Russian full-scale invasion, its activists joined the defense of Ukraine in the ranks of the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Battalion.
Furthermore, elections were held during the Congress, which approved the composition of the LYMEC delegation to the ALDE Party Congress, extended the mandate of Even Diot as Secretary General, and elected David Grasveld as LYMEC's representative to the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY).
We sincerely thank the organizers for the opportunity and their systematic support for Ukraine!
