On 24 November 2025, the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine held the seminar “Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific: a Media Perspective” – a specialized event dedicated to how media coverage of Indo-Pacific issues affects national security.

The seminar brought together journalists, editors, analysts, civil society representatives, and young professionals working on international affairs. Discussions focused on political and security developments in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, India, Australia, and the states of Southeast Asia, as well as their impact on global trends and Ukraine’s strategic position amid the ongoing Russian aggression.

The event’s speakers included:

Arthur Kharytonov – President of the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine;
Andy Sharp – Editor of the analysis desk at Nikkei Asia;
Ray Wong – Hong Kong pro-democracy leader in exile, Head of Freiheit für Hongkong e.V.;
Agiya Zahrebelska – Director of Partnership Development at the Economic Security Council;
Andrii Nazarenko – Japanese civic activist of Ukrainian origin, publicist, and analyst;
Sofiia Maksymiv – Senior Analyst at StateWatch;
Maksym Steblivskyi – Analyst at StateWatch.

The seminar was moderated by Olena Vostrova – political psychologist, author and host of the programs “Polityka.PSI” on KYIV24 and “IPSO” and “Kartyna dnia” on Kyiv FM.

Within the program, participants received:

• an overview of key Indo-Pacific actors and their defence and security strategies;
• an analysis of regional perceptions of Ukraine;
• practical recommendations for working with primary sources and media content from the Indo-Pacific;
• an understanding of the region’s role in the continuation of Russian aggression and in shaping the global sanctions regime.

The seminar became an important step toward building sustainable Ukrainian expertise on the Indo-Pacific and strengthening the capacity of media to cover processes that will define Ukraine’s future in the global dimension.

The LDLU team expresses gratitude to its partners for their support, including the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine; the International Renaissance Foundation; the StateWatch analytical center and the Trap Aggressor project; and the KYIV24 television channel.
