From June 11 to 14, 2026, the 58th General Assembly of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY) took place in Taipei, co-organized by the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine and the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan.

This is the first instance of institutional cooperation between political organizations from Eastern Europe and East Asia at the IFLRY level. It is also the first IFLRY general assembly in the Indo-Pacific region in over 20 years.

The LDLU delegation at the event was led by Vice President Yevheniia Fedotova and Head of the East Asian Office Mariia Makarovych. The delegation also included Senior Advisor for Pacific Affairs Oleksandr Shyn, Tokyo Coordinator Mariia Hirniak, and activists Nadiia Varzhel and Kateryna Rivna.

Within the framework of the general assembly, Vice President Fedotova took part in panel discussions dedicated to the global confrontation against autocracies and youth democratic activism. Other members of the delegation held an educational session on the experience of Ukrainian liberal youth amidst the Russian war.

Particularly valuable during the event was the communication with Koki Ozora, a member of the lower house of the Japanese parliament from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) – one of the youngest MPs in the state's history and a consistent supporter of Ukraine and Taiwan.

The LDLU team was also glad to meet again with long-standing like-minded colleagues: Wen Lii and Lin Fei-fan, Deputy Secretaries-General of the National Security Council of Taiwan.

We sincerely thank the Taiwan office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, and the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats for supporting the Taipei IFLRY General Assembly.

LDLU will continue to build institutional cooperation with partners from East Asia and look forward to the opportunity to submit a bid to host the world's most important youth liberal forum in the Ukrainian capital – the Hero City of Kyiv.
