On September 16, 2026, the forum "War, Resilience and Ukraine’s Lessons for Democracies" took place in Taipei. The event was co-organized by the East Asia Office of the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine and the German Institute Taipei.
The forum brought together Ukrainian, Taiwanese, and European politicians and experts for a comprehensive analysis of Ukraine's experience in countering Russian armed aggression, hybrid threats, and disinformation campaigns. The discussions were directly aimed at conceptualizing the lessons that Ukrainian resistance provides for strengthening the resilience of other democratic systems.
The keynote speaker of the event was Bundestag member Roderich Kiesewetter (CDU), who emphasized the direct correlation between the security situation in Ukraine and in Taiwan. He underscored the necessity for democratic states to consolidate their support for both actors.
The discussion was also joined by Eric Huang, Director General of the Department of European Affairs at Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Chen Kuan-Ting, Member of the Legislative Yuan (DPP). The participants discussed cooperation between Ukraine and Taiwan, the resilience of democratic societies, countering hybrid threats, and the importance of closer interaction between the democracies of the Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific.
Maria Makarovych, Head of the LDLU East Asia Office, acknowledged Taiwan's consistent support for Ukraine since the onset of the Russian full-scale invasion. She highlighted the strategic importance of a bilateral exchange of expertise, particularly concerning the transfer of Ukrainian practices in asymmetric defense and countering hybrid influence to Taiwan.
